Puppy the 29 inch Miniature Horse
When you hear the word Puppy, you certainly don't expect to come face to face (well, your leg to his face) with a miniature horse but that's what happens when you meet this Puppy.
I was at a horse auction in Langley hoping to find a suitable horse for our therapeutic riding program in Nanaimo. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I'd be coming home with a miniature horse. His name was Sam and his tag number was 64. (People call me Sam and I was born in 1964..Hmmmm maybe in was pre-destined..) When I saw him he must have had at least 13 young children swarming all around him. He was so calm, patient and trusting - just what you look for in an animal that is going to be working with special needs kids and adults. While he certainly couldn't be used for riding he was perfect for people in wheelchairs to groom and interact with. Not everyone is comfortable being around horses because of their immense size. Well at 29 inches Puppy is not intimidating at all. Transitioning to the bigger horses was less difficult after spending time with Puppy. Needless to say Sam, aka Puppy, came home with me that day - and we've been best friends ever since.
